Pre-Abortion and Post-Abortion Care
The Boston Abortion Clinic wants you to fully understand what to expect prior to your abortion and following your abortion. Your health and wellbeing is important to us! The following information should be used as general guidelines. Please read it over and let us know if you have any questions.
We recommend a pre-abortion visit if you have the following;
- Concerns about a high-risk pregnancy.
- Concerns about drug exposure during the pregnancy.
- Paternity questions or testing needs.
- Issues with a fetal abnormality.
- Questions or concerns about the abortion procedure.
On the day you are scheduled for your abortion, do not eat or drink anything for eight hours prior to your surgery. If you were prescribed medicine, please take it with a small sip of water.
Make travel arrangements. You will need someone to drive you home following the surgery. Only one adult will be allowed to wait for you in the waiting room. Children are not permitted. Please notify the front desk if you will need us to call you a taxi following your surgery.
Although the procedure only takes around 20 minutes, please plan on being at the clinic for two hours. Our abortion services include counseling you about the procedure, obtaining health information and allowing you time to recover following the surgery.
Limit your commitments on the day of your surgery and take the day off work or school. You may return to your regular schedule the day after your surgery.
Please make sure you have your payment ready when you arrive.
Bleeding and cramping are normal occurrences after an abortion and they should subside within a few days. Medications such as ibuprofen may be taken for cramps. Do not take aspirin as it increases bleeding. A heating pad may be used to relieve cramping.
Do not have sex for two weeks. When you do resume sexual activities use birth control as you may be more fertile. Do not use tampons for two weeks. Showers are acceptable but no baths or swimming for two weeks.
We will provide you with detailed instructions following your surgery.
